Sockness Builders - How We Do It

How We Do It

When you decide that you're ready to look into building a new home, there are a couple easy steps you can take to jumpstart the process. One of the first things you will want to do is start to research the style of home that you are interested in building. It's a great idea to look through magazines, or even just keep track of ideas while you are brainstorming about what you might want to be included in your dream home. Often, clients will save pictures, articles, or even floor plans. Your first appointment with Jon is a great opportunity for you to tell him about yourself and what you are looking for in a new home. Make sure that you're not afraid to ask a lot of questions. You'll want to know about Jon's home building experience, warranties, and unique items that may affect your costs. Feel free to bring all of your home ideas to the table, or Jon can help you in developing preliminary ideas. The designer and builder can use your ideas to create a plan for a home that will meet your needs and also fit your budget. Click on the new construction wish list to help you get started.

The designer will then begin working on the preliminary drawing of your new home. This first plan is based on your ideas and your conversations with Jon. The purpose of these first drawings is to put together your ideas for the size and location of rooms in your home, the number of levels, and also the positioning of your house on the lot. These preliminary sketches are meant to get you thinking about changes you will want to make in order to create the home you've always dreamed of. Your new home budget is also important at this stage as well. The changes you are making to the house plans will need to reflect your financial decisions. In order to better decide on a mortgage payment that will fit your lifestyle use this “Mortgage Calculator” and interactive tools to help you find the answers to your financial questions.

Once the appropriate changes have been made and the sketches are approved, they are turned into working drawings. These are the plans that the designer will use to create blueprints for your new home. The details of your home will be put together in the specifications, commonly called "specs." The finishing features of your home will be decided here, and this document includes everything from the doorknobs to countertops.

At this point Jon will be ready to start construction on your new home. Building a home is an exciting experience, and Sockness Builders, Inc. makes sure that you are involved every step along the way.
